A hidden treasure in the federal capital

The Vanier Museopark is a non-profit organisation located in the heart of Vanier, a popular neighbourhood near downtown Ottawa. It celebrates the community’s rich heritage and history. Through its exhibitions, talks, school workshops, public activities and interpretive tours, the Vanier Museopark enables curious people of all ages – and all cultures – to discover and learn about the habits and customs of the local Francophone community.

The Museopark is Ottawa’s only French-language museum and one of the few Canadian museums devoted entirely to the Francophone community outside Quebec This museum institution was born of the desire of residents and former elected officials of the municipality of Vanier to highlight the history of what many have described as a French-speaking bastion in Ontario.

Proud of its roots

The Vanier Museopark has a strong presence in the community. The Museopark operates an authentic sugar shack in the heart of an urban maple grove. Its unique character is due not only to its location – being the only active urban sugar shack in the country –, but also to the fact that over a hundred volunteers join forces year after year to ensure its proper management.

The Museopark also hosts the Sugar Festival, an annual event that promotes maple syrup culture, local artists, and is a must-see family activity.

The Museopark has a strong presence in the Vanier community, and enjoys organising a wide range of activities and events by and for Francophones and Franco-curious people of the Ottawa region.
