A museum to (re)discover!
The Vanier Museopark is on the unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg. What we now call Vanier is part of their traditional homeland and has been since time immemorial. We, as a museum and sugar shack, have a responsibility to share inclusive stories of our neighbourhood and celebrate Indigenous heritage and culture, especially when it comes to the First Nations knowledge from which all sugaring stems.
The Vanier Museopark is a non-profit community museum. It is the only French-language museum in the federal capital, and one of the few Canadian museums outside Quebec devoted entirely to the Francophone community.
While exploring the museum, visitors will discover (or rediscover) the history of a small French-speaking neighbourhood, Vanier, also known as Eastview before 1969.
The Vanier Museopark is one of the 12 members of the Ottawa Museum Network. Community museums have a direct link to the community they represent, and proudly showcase its historical and cultural heritage.
That’s what you’ll discover when you visit our museum!
