Musecology

The Vanier Museopark team is currently working on updating the workshops offered in the “Musecology” program. In anticipation of the start of the 2025-2026 school year, here’s a look at the new programs:

Mission: Pollination!

Bees, fireflies, butterflies, hummingbirds… What a fascinating world! Behind every crunchy apple and soothing hot chocolate is a pollinator hard at work. This hands-on program at the Vanier Museopark invites your students to explore the amazing role these tiny heroes of nature play in our environment.

Through fun activities, games, and up-close discoveries, students will learn:

  • Who pollinators are (hint: it’s not just bees!);
  • Why they’re essential to our food and ecosystems;
  • Simple ways we can all help them—at school and at home!

Bonus: Leave with practical eco-friendly ideas and activities to try in your classroom or schoolyard.

A fun and educational workshop that brings science and nature to life!

Grade levels: Elementary (TBD)

Our urban forest

The Richelieu Forest is much more than just a green space — it’s a living laboratory in the heart of Vanier. Our forest is unique: it is home to the only operational urban sugar shack in Canada, and holds an incredible wealth of ecological, historical, and social value.

This interdisciplinary program invites students to explore the forest through multiple lenses:

  • Ecology & Biology: Biodiversity, mycology, food chains, native species
  • Geography & Urbanism: The role of urban forests, land use and development
  • History & Culture: Traditional land use, the evolution of Vanier
  • Civics & Environmental Studies: Political issues, conservation, community engagement

Through critical discussions and hands-on activities, students will gain a deeper understanding of the ways our environment and our society are profoundly connected.

A rich, relevant exploration to help students think critically about the future of our urban forests.

Grade levels: High school (TBD)
