Due to the uncertainties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vanier Museopark opted once again for a virtual festival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the outset, our intention in organizing this edition of the Festival was to reconnect with traditions by bringing to people the types of festive and family-oriented experiences customarily found at the Sugar Festival, but this time in virtual form,\u201d explained Vanier Museopark Executive Director Madeleine Meilleur.<\/p>\n<p>A fully digital platform was developed by the Museopark team to present the entire program in the form of an advent calendar, sugar season version, needless to say. \u201cWe wanted to keep the long-standing interest in this annual event alive and cherished by the Vanier community,\u201d added Ms. Meilleur. \u201cWe would like as many people as possible to benefit, and the online formula enables us to reach them wherever they may be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Vanier Sugar Festival is an unmissable event in my constituency,\u201d said Ottawa-Vanier provincial member of parliament Lucille Collard. \u201cI am delighted to see that the Vanier Museopark has found an original way to adapt to the current circumstances and keep this wonderful tradition alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Overview of the 2022 Virtual Sugar Festival (#fdsv2022)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the nine days of the Festival, from April 1 to 9, 2022, original content will be released on the\u00a0<a href=\"about:blank\"><strong>monmuseoparc.ca\/1<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0digital platform.<\/p>\n<p>The activities will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A launch video of the festivities with a\u00a0<strong>musical performance<\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0<a href=\"about:blank\">Moonfruits<\/a>, writers-composers-performers from Vanier, which was filmed in the beautiful maple bush in Richelieu Park.<\/li>\n<li>An online\u00a0<strong>cooking workshop<\/strong>\u00a0for children with\u00a0<a href=\"about:blank\"><em>C\u2019est moi le chef<\/em><\/a>, offered for free on Sunday, April 3. To register,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.ca\/e\/billets-atelier-cuisine-en-ligne-museoparc-302330888827\"><strong>click here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>selfie<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>photobooth<\/strong>, where you can let your imagination run wild with original and fun stickers. Visitors are invited to share their photo on social media using #fdsv2022.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>maple sugar pastry demonstration\u00a0<\/strong>by a Cordon Bleu Ottawa chef.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>quiz<\/strong>\u00a0to test your knowledge about maple syrup production and Vanier\u2019s history.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Crafts, colouring and other activities\u00a0<\/strong>families can do outdoors.<\/li>\n<li>Several draws for\u00a0<strong>prizes<\/strong>\u00a0from local businesses for people taking part in the Festival. The winners will be announced on April 9 at\u00a0<a href=\"about:blank\">ca\/1<\/a>\u00a0and on the Vanier Museopark social networks.<\/li>\n<li>Many more\u00a0<strong>surprises<\/strong>\u00a0throughout the nine days of the Festival.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Vanier Museopark already has a few packages for sale in anticipation of the Sugar Festival, including a home\u00a0<strong>maple sugar kit<\/strong>\u00a0($12), a\u00a0<strong>2022 Soup(e) Splash soup tasting kit<\/strong>\u00a0($30) and a\u00a0<strong>crafts and activities kit<\/strong>\u00a0for kids (free). There is still time to get these packages through the\u00a0<a href=\"about:blank\">Vanier Museopark online shop<\/a>\u00a0or at\u00a0<a href=\"about:blank\">monmuseoparc.ca\/1<\/a>. Be sure to get yours so you can get the most out of the 2022 virtual Sugar Festival and have fun with your family!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grab your spoons, Soup(e) Splash is back!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the heels of last year\u2019s phenomenal success, Soup(e) Splash is back for its 15<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0edition. This friendly culinary competition involves eight local restaurants, each one taking on the challenge of creating an original soup where the main ingredient is maple syrup. Several restaurants in the Vanier community will be taking part this year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clocktower Brew Pub<\/li>\n<li>Cuisine TradPlus (Centre Pauline-Charron\u2019s social enterprise)<\/li>\n<li>Dhruvees<\/li>\n<li>Epicuria<\/li>\n<li>Fraser<\/li>\n<li>Le St-Laurent<\/li>\n<li>Tasha\u2019s (the restaurant that was the people\u2019s choice and the panel\u2019s favourite last year)<\/li>\n<li>Union Street Caf\u00e9<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Soup(e) Splash is a terrific way to encourage local restaurants that are going through tough times, while at the same time giving the community the chance to discover new ones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Soup(e) Splash tasting kit sells for $30<\/strong>\u00a0and includes a soup from each participating restaurant, bread, a voting card, and the list of ingredients. In total, 250 kits will be available this year, which is 50 more than last year, due to the event\u2019s tremendous success in 2021. This year, the Vanier Museopark is working with the local food bank, and will donate part of its revenues to Partage Vanier to support the community.
