Photo credit: Caleb Ficner.<\/em><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>OTTAWA, June\u00a027,\u00a02023<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 It was with great enthusiasm and pride that the Vanier Museopark inaugurated its new exhibition gallery at a reception attended by numerous partners, elected representatives and community members earlier today.<\/p>\n<p>The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by the Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, the President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament for Ottawa-Vanier, the Honourable Mona Fortier, the Member of Provincial Parliament for Ottawa-Vanier, Lucille Collard, City Concillor for Rideau-Vanier, St\u00e9phanie Plante, and members of the Vanier Museopark\u2019s Board of Directors and team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A major renovation for a community museum<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Vanier Museopark was closed since March 2020, but used the COVID-19 pandemic to good advantage and embarked on its biggest renovation project since its creation in 2004. The design of the museum and the new permanent exhibition \u201c<strong>Vanier. Our Place.<\/strong>\u201d was entrusted to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.behance.net\/scanuel\">Stefan Canuel<\/a>, who has over 25 years of experience in the creative and design industry and is currently Senior Designer at the National Gallery of Canada. His work has received national and international recognition and awards from a host of prominent design and graphic design figures (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aiga.org\/\">AIGA<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alcuinsociety.com\/\">Alcuin Society<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.appliedartsmag.com\/\">Applied Arts<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commarts.com\/\">Communication Arts<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.graphis.com\/\">Graphis<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/typographicarts.org\/\">The Society of Typographic Arts<\/a>). Construction of the new permanent exhibit was handled by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expozone.com\/en\/\">EXPOZONE<\/a>, a local manufacturer which specializes in the creation of exhibitions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were fortunate to surround ourselves with reputable experts, such as Stefan and EXPOZONE, to bring the museum\u2019s exhibition gallery to another level,\u201d says Jonathan Paquette, President of the Museopark\u2019s Board of Directors. \u201cThe Vanier Museopark is proud to be Ottawa\u2019s only French-language museum and one of 11 community museums in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ottawamuseumnetwork.ca\/\">Ottawa Museum Network<\/a>. This major renovation, costing over $500,000, has transformed us from a community museum into a museum space worthy of our national capital\u2019s great museums. The time has finally come for the community to reclaim its museum and come and visit in large numbers!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cVanier. Our Place.\u201d: the Museopark\u2019s new permanent exhibition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Vanier Museopark commissioned journalist and proud Vanier resident Denis Gratton to write the introductory text for its new permanent exhibition. From the outset, his words take visitors on a journey to the heart of this emblematic neighbourhood of Ontario\u2019s French-speaking community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe physical renewal of the museum\u2019s gallery was the perfect pretext for reinventing the permanent exhibition that has been presented since the Museopark\u2019s opening,\u201d says Yanick Labossi\u00e8re, curator of the museum. \u201cThe new exhibition \u2018Vanier. Our Place.\u2019 highlights the history of both Vanier and its community, as well as their key contribution to the struggles of Ontario\u2019s French-speaking community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than 150 artifacts, including some new finds, are on display throughout the new tour, which features five sections on Vanier\u2019s history, from its foundations to its current transformations, with a special focus on Vanier as a stronghold of the Ottawan Francophonie.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A touch of technology to enliven your visit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to a grant from Ottawa Tourism and a partnership with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mysmartjourney.com\/en-ca\">My Smart Journey<\/a>, the Vanier Museopark is now able to offer visitors a digital itinerary providing access to exclusive, complementary content.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur museum is entering a new era \u2013 a digital era,\u201d the Executive Director says proudly. \u201cDuring your visit, you\u2019ll be able to use various technological supports (QR codes and NFC chips) throughout the exhibition. Tablets can also be used to browse through the many photos. It celebrates the rich heritage and history of its community. Through its exhibits, talks, workshops, school programs and interpretive tours, the Vanier Museopark allows curious people of all ages \u2013 and all cultures \u2013 to discover and learn about the habits and customs of the local Francophonie. It is the only French-language museum in Ottawa and one of the few Canadian museums outside Quebec devoted entirely to the Francophonie. The Vanier Museopark also operates an authentic sugar shack in the heart of an urban sugar bush, the only one of its kind in the world. It also hosts the\u00a0<em>Sugar Festival<\/em>, a family-friendly annual event that promotes the culture of maple syrup as well as Franco-Ontarian and Aboriginal artists.
