{"id":11175,"date":"2026-02-02T15:21:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T20:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/museoparc.ca\/?p=11175"},"modified":"2026-02-02T15:28:59","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T20:28:59","slug":"spotlight-eastview-mayors-chair-1940-1970","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/museoparc.ca\/en\/spotlight-eastview-mayors-chair-1940-1970\/","title":{"rendered":"Spotlight: Eastview Mayor&#8217;s Chair 1940-1970"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chair used by the mayor of Eastview at the city council table from approximately 1940 to 1970.<\/p>\n<p>It is by happy coincidence that this chair, a witness to Vanier&#8217;s political history, found its way into our collection.<\/p>\n<p>For a long time, City Hall, the police station, and the fire department shared the same premises at the corner of Montreal Road and Cyr Street.<\/p>\n<p>In the late 1960s, the municipal council decided to replace the old furniture. It quickly ended up in the trash.<\/p>\n<p>Andr\u00e9 Roy, a firefighter with the Eastview Fire Department, was returning home to St-Denis Street at the end of his shift when he saw the old furniture behind the building and decided to take the mayor&#8217;s chair home with him.<\/p>\n<p>The chair remained in Mr. Roy&#8217;s possession for some 50 years until his daughter, Dominique, donated it to the museum.
